The tube chart date code works like this: the first letter indicates the year and the second letter indicates the month. So if your blackface amp has a date code stamp of OB, it was made in 1965/February. If your tweed champ is stamped HH, it was made in 1958/August. A – 1951 A – January. Fender JV models had the serial numbers engraved into either the neck plate or bridge. Many also have penciled neck dates ( 6-14-82 ) you can only see when the neck is removed from the body of the guitar. Sep 15, 2017 From 1953 to 1967, this was a two-letter stamp that corresponded with the month and year the amp was manufactured. For instance, if the amp was manufactured in March of 1955, the serial code would be EC. E for 1955 and C for March. This two-letter production stamp continued in 1990 when Fender began reissuing Fender Bassman Amplifiers. Register your Fender product today. 1-844-202-0924 Why register? See the latest gear. Its strength lies in the sweetness and early breakup caused by the smaller transformers than the Super Reverb, Vibroverb and Pro Reverb. Hence, less clean headroom. Like all silverface amps, the Vibrolux Reverb was modified in the CBS periods to increase the clean headroom. Speakers, tubes and caps needs to be replaced and these will affect the tone a lot.
Fender Fender Tube Chart Dates dnjohan–(at)– (Dave Johansen) Re: Silverface Super Rvb — a bunch of naive questions.
A great retro combo at a reasonable price. Pros Great tone, great looks and the Fender badge. Cons The reverb could do with being a touch warmer. Everyone has their own favourite version of this wonderful small amplifier, and at the risk of offending some of the tweed fanatics out there, we reckon that with this reissue of the reverb-equipped variant Fender has probably picked the one that’s garnered the most praise over the years. It combines the classic good looks of the pre-CBS ‘blackface’ with the mis-named Vibrato effect and that great spring reverb.
Originally intended as a smaller, more portable combo for practice and beginners, the Princeton Reverb quickly found its true calling in the hands of studio players and, along with the tweed Deluxe, is probably one of the most recorded amps of all time. Like the original, this re-issue has a smart, perfectly proportioned cabinet covered in thick black Tolex, combined with a silver sparkle grille cloth and black control panel with six skirted control knobs for volume, treble, bass, vibrato speed and intensity and depth for the reverb effect.
Construction Also just like the original, this reissue sports a small but solid steel chassis, to which all the valve bases are directly bolted for strength, reliability and easy changeovers. Inside the chassis, the electronics are all PCB mounted on single-sided boards which are not through-plated – there are two small boards for the input jacks and rotary controls and one large one for everything else, with connections to the valve bases made by short flying leads.

Fender Amp Chassis Serial Number Date Codes
The source-date code on a pot is a 6 or 7 digit code impressed into the casing of the potentiometer. For speakers this code can be 5, 6, 7 or 8 digits long, and it’s ink-stamped or paint-stamped on the “bell housing” of the speaker. In either case, the code works the same.
Examples: Vibrolux Reverb with serial number A (A7 = ), Princeton Reverb II with serial number F (F0 = ), and Super Reverb with serial number B (B = or ). Note, there is enough data for B-series Twin Reverbs (and variants) to differentiate between and
Just got in a Leblanc alto for a repad. First time working this model. I remember you saying this sax required a special thickness pad. Pads are held in by a small disc screwed to a stud. I plan on installing new pads like any sax with shellac and then screwing on the small disc that previously held in the pads. Or should I suggest to my customer we remove the stud from the key cups and install pads with modern resonators and which style do you think would work best for classical or community band playing?
Thanks for your time. There are also four thread nibs soldered to the bell. I believe this is was the amp hardware was attached. Still plays very nice and full. Is this rare model? Nice dark honey colored original finish on the horn. My left thumb joint at the very base of my left thumb has become painful to use when pushing the octave key down.
Best Blues Amp Buyer’s Guide
Being that this version is ‘Super,’ it has a number of features and controls not found on regular Twin Reverb amps, although I don’t prefer this to the originals. Like all Twin Reverb amps, it’s got 2 12″ speakers. It has watts of power with six 6L6 tubes in it as well as a preamp tube. Of course the amp has built in spring reverb, as well a distortion which isn’t something found on other Twin Reverbs.
Included on the front panel of controls are knobs for volume, treble, middle, bass, presence, a series of five more EQ knobs, distortion, and lastly overall output level. It’s definitely nice to have this much control, and even so I don’t think the manual is necessary, although I’ve not seen it for myself.

If you’re not familiar with my site, it’s simple, and you’ll love it or hate it: It’s not a fancy site but it remains unchanged since ’98 and I firmly believe, “if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it. Just click on any underlined text and it should open a picture; if you move your cursor over the pic and there’s a magnifying glass displayed instead of your cursor, click the pic and it will expand it to larger size. I would have called it a Custom 22S or something.
I like the blade so much more than the rotary. A few clear coat indents or scratches but nothing through to the wood.

The combination of size, weight and performance makes the Deluxe Reverb a true road warrior on gigs and practise. Since the year we have observed, by monitoring the amp market on US ebay, that low wattage amps have increased dramatically in popularity. We find it irrational. The PA was invented long time before that and guitar tones containing fuzz and distortion have been around since the sixties-seventies.
The reverb drive circuit in most tube-driven reverb amps is actually similar to a small, low-power, single-end output stage. The tube is fed a signal (from channel 2, or the “vibrato” channel, in the case of Fender reverb amps). The tube’s output connects to a transformer, exactly as in a .
I promise the tables will still be there after you finish reading. We also received a report of a tweed 5G12 Concert. The 5G12 Concert is the earliest version from very late and early so the existence of a tweed example, while extremely rare, is certainly plausible since Fender was making lots of tweed amps during the same time period. Working at FMI — I was able to interview a fellow who wishes to remain anonymous who worked at Fender in in the amp department.
Fender Bassman Serial Number Lookup
Although his job was somewhat limited, his recollections provided some really fascinating insights to how the amps were built. For instance, he confirmed our assumption that the amp chassis were put into stock after being stamped with serial numbers and that the chassis were pulled from the stock bins randomly just as with Fender guitar neck plates. The boss came around and said what we’d be building. The chassis weren’t used chronologically.
Probably the same as the pots and transformers that we just dug out of the boxes. I think in the corners of the boxes were older pots remaining from earlier dates I think the better, older hands did 35 a day. Like I said, there were 5 or 6 of us at the benches every day. But it wasn’t always ‘cool guitar’ amps, sometimes I was making Fender Rhodes Satellite amps on bent aluminum, sometimes only Champs. I remember two ‘suits’ from upstairs standing behind me occasionally doing time studies.
Looking for a Fender Super Reverb SORTED
Guitar, bass; tube, solid state. These amps are called solid-state because they use transistors for their preamp and power sections They are very reliable and seldom need repairs. These amps are popular with players looking for a sturdy, reliable touring amp. Most lower cost practice amps are solid state. Most tube amps have separate channels that can switch from clean to distorted tones instantly.
Tube performance can deteriorate over time, so tubes need changing occasionally.
Good vintage ones are hard to find and when a player gets a hold of one they seldom part with it. Now the top blues stars may be able to afford fancier amps, like Dumbles and boutique amps, but for a working, local blues guitarist, the Super Reverb offers probably the best bang-for-the-buck for the blues. That originally came out in when the entire Fender line moved to a black tolex design with the classic Fender logo on the grill cloth. That amp was made for almost 20 years and was discontinued from the line in Some of those were OK but the most highly prized Supers are the pre-CBS models form with being the high-water mark.
You can find it at any good musical instrument supplier. They also re-issued versions of the 65 Twin Reverb and the 65 Deluxe Reverb. Why that year was picked by Fender is not certain. But these reissues are excellent amplifiers. I had a Deluxe Reverb reissue myself which I wish I never got rid of. Boy do I wish I still had a lot of my old amps.

Go to menu top I never heard anything better than a Fender if we’re talking about the big manufacturers.
